Darkness and Light
Darkness and Light is a poster created for an exhibition on Japanese classical literature. The poster combines lacquer art and oil painting, nature and humanity, classic and modern styles. Typography links the works of two artists with classical texts held by the research institute. The printed sheet measures 515 by 728 millimetres and is produced by UV offset printing with vegetable ink on paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. The design shows how classical culture and books shape artistic expression today.
Darkness and Light Poster by Chihiro Otsuki was identified as an outstanding illustration of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Darkness and Light Poster received the Bronze A' Design Award in Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design in 2024. The A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design recognition program which celebrates outstanding design of logos, posters, infographics, brochures, packaging designs, business cards, book covers, billboards and more.
